If you missed our recent Childhood Asthma webinar, delivered as part of Asthma Awareness Week 2026, you can now watch the full recording below.
Childhood asthma is one of the most common long-term conditions affecting children in Ireland. With the right diagnosis, treatment and support, most children with asthma can lead full, active lives.
Chaired by Eilís Ní Chaithnía, CEO of the Asthma Society of Ireland, the webinar features Dr Louisa Owens, Paediatric Respiratory Consultant at Children’s Health Ireland, and Respiratory Nurse Specialist Ruth Morrow.
In this expert-led session, we explore what childhood asthma is, how it affects the airways, and how symptoms and triggers can present differently at different ages. The webinar also addresses common myths about asthma and explains how asthma is diagnosed in younger and older children.
The session covers current treatment approaches, including MART for older children and teenagers, and highlights the importance of regular asthma reviews and Asthma Action Plans in supporting good asthma control.
You’ll also hear practical advice on day-to-day asthma management, including medication adherence, correct inhaler and spacer technique, exercising safely with asthma, managing asthma in school, and what to do during an asthma attack, including the 5 Step Rule.
Importantly, the webinar focuses on empowering parents and carers with the knowledge and confidence to support children to manage asthma well from an early age — helping reduce flare-ups, hospital visits and missed school days.
The recording also includes the live Q&A session, where common questions from parents and carers were addressed by our expert panel.
