Reliever inhalers are used to treat symptoms; they relax the muscles around the airways to let the air in and out of your lungs. They act quickly and can last up to 4 hours. They do not treat the underlying cause of asthma which is inflammation and overuse of your reliever inhaler can be dangerous. If you feel your reliever inhaler is not working or you are needing it twice a week, you need to be reviewed by a healthcare professional.
